Two Very Different Jobs, Inside and Out
Shutters do two quite separate things depending on which side of the glass they sit. Inside, plantation shutters give adjustable light and privacy with a built-in look that does not date. Outside, aluminium and roller shutters take on weather, heat loss and security. At Right Choice Blinds & Awnings, we supply and install shutters throughout Hobart in all three forms. We build each one to the measurements of the opening rather than cutting down a stock panel. As one of the country's top Norman retailers, we can work through the full choice of plantation styles, materials and finishes with you. Where the job is really about shading a deck, awnings may be the better answer. Call (03) 6218 3666 for a free measure and quote.

Make Your First Choice The Right Choice
Shutter Options We Fit
Each type solves a different problem, and it is common to use more than one across a single home.
Plantation shutters
Custom-made for every window in a choice of styles, materials and finishes. They are also PVC-free, using timber sourced from sustainably managed forestry. Angling the louvres lets you keep privacy at street level while the room stays bright.
Aluminium shutters
We fit Weatherwell aluminium shutters in multi-fold, hinged, sliding or fixed configurations, which makes them workable on awkward openings. They also work well over internal skylights.
Outdoor roller shutters
Closed, they give total blockout and add an insulating layer outside the glass, which counts on cold Tasmanian nights. They come in a range of contemporary colours, and we can add motorisation.
Motorisation and automation
Shutters can run from a remote, a wall switch or a smart home system, which matters most on upper-floor and hard-to-reach openings. Our team will advise on the right system and help set up the programming.

Frequently Asked Questions
Plantation shutters are an interior window furnishing, with louvres that tilt to control light and privacy inside the room. Outdoor roller shutters mount on the exterior of the building and roll down over the whole opening for blockout, insulation and security.
Outdoor roller shutters trap an insulating layer of air outside the glass and noticeably slow overnight heat loss. Interior plantation shutters give a smaller thermal benefit, though a solid, well-fitted panel still cuts the draught that moves around a window frame.
Yes, because custom shutters follow the measurements of the individual opening rather than a stock panel size, which makes unusual shapes workable. Bi-fold, sliding and hinged tracking systems cover wide openings and doorways that still need to be used every day.
